SIDE QUEST · FATHER FLORIN

In the Name of the Father Walkthrough

Trigger Father Florin’s invitation, enter the Carpenter Row hideout and choose whether to cooperate, refuse or attack. Every branch can reach the Ancient Key and A Hero’s End, but only keeping Florin alive preserves his later Greifberg Castle route.

Quick answer

The clean story route starts at Svartrau Cathedral during the day: accept Florin’s confession, confess wrath, envy and gluttony, then choose “Tell me more.” His invitation points to the house north of the West Gate. In the final room, agree to help, refuse for now or attack him; all three routes can produce the Ancient Key.

How to start the quest

Route A: Cathedral confession and quest marker

  1. Visit Svartrau Cathedral on the east side of the city during the day. Florin is baptizing a child on the first visit.
  2. Accept his offer to hear your confession. This consumes one time segment.
  3. Confess every listed sin: wrath, envy and gluttony.
  4. When Florin offers more guidance, select “Tell me more.” This is the dialogue blocker that actually starts In the Name of the Father.
  5. Follow the marker to the house west of the city centre, directly north of the Svartrau West Gate. The front door is marked by the symbol of Saint Tobias’s hand, and a beggar invites you inside.

Route B: Find the hideout without confession

You can skip the cathedral trigger and locate the same Carpenter Row house yourself. Travel north of the Western Gate and use Focus Mode to identify the entrance. Without Florin’s invitation, knocking brings three of his men out to fight; defeat them and search the bodies for the house key. A direct balcony entry is also described in the short quest variant documented by PowerPyx.

Route C: Acolyte, Treasury and the hidden office

A third lead-in reaches the hideout through the cathedral’s own buildings rather than the confessional. Help the acolyte near the bell tower move crates to open the locked room, then use Focus Mode to find the Treasury Key — reported on the spine of the book, or inside the storage-room journal depending on the source. That key opens the Treasury across the courtyard; inside it, Focus Mode reveals a movable bookshelf and a hidden passage into Father Florin’s private office, where inspecting the map marks the same hideout.

Route C is documented by fewer sources than Routes A and B, and its exact step ordering varies between them, so treat the Treasury Key pickup as the fixed landmark and the surrounding description as approximate.

Reach Florin beneath the house

  1. Search the house if you want Florin’s notes and additional context; none of those documents is required to reach him.
  2. Enter the southern room on the first floor and drop through the large hole.
  3. Follow the underground route through the old ruins. If a guide appears, following him is optional; the route still leads to Florin.
  4. Continue until you reach the chamber where Father Florin is preaching to his hidden congregation.
Wrong house or no entrance?

Return to the road directly north of the West Gate and scan with Focus Mode. If you came through the cathedral route, look for the marked door and Saint Tobias’s hand; without the invitation, be ready to obtain the key from the ambushers.

Help, refuse or attack Father Florin?

ChoiceImmediate resultAncient KeyLonger consequence
Agree to helpFlorin asks you to complete an ancient trial. Speak to him again when ready. He gives access to the key/trial route.Keeps Florin alive and preserves his later shortcut into Greifberg Castle.
Refuse for nowThe quest completes without a fight. The refusal is not final while Florin lives.Take the key from the barrel beside the northern ruins door. You can return and agree later, including after the trial.
Attack FlorinFlorin dies and the congregation becomes hostile.Loot the Ancient Key from Florin’s body. The follow-up remains available, but Florin and his castle shortcut are permanently lost.
Best practical choice

Agree to help if you want the most future options: keeping Florin alive is what later yields the secret knock for Greifberg Castle, letting Coen enter the courtyard alone during the day instead of scaling the walls at night, and it opens the questline that leads to A Lone Wolf’s Hunt and the final confrontation with Brencis. Refusing temporarily does not lock you out, and killing Florin does not block A Hero’s End; the permanent cost of killing him is losing that ally route.

Whichever branch you take, none of the three can strand the follow-up: the Ancient Key is reachable on every route, so the only decision with a lasting cost is whether Florin stays alive.

Get the Ancient Key and trigger A Hero’s End

Secure the Ancient Key before leaving the congregation room:

  • Florin alive and cooperating: continue his dialogue when you are ready for the trial.
  • Florin alive but refused: take the key from the barrel beside the northern ruins door.
  • Florin killed: loot it from his body after the fight.

Use the Ancient Key on the northern locked door in the same underground area. That ends In the Name of the Father and begins A Hero’s End.

If A Hero’s End does not start
  • Finish the active Florin conversation before taking the barrel key.
  • Confirm the item is the Ancient Key, not the separate House, Treasury or Stone Key.
  • Use it on the northern door beside the congregation room instead of returning upstairs.

What this quest does not include

This page stops when A Hero’s End begins. The Ancient Guardian, Rigoz, Ancient Hero’s Armour and The Hand of Fate belong to the follow-up quest. If you intend to collect The Hand of Fate there, obtain the separate Stone Key from the Cathedral Treasury before entering the deeper ruins; the Ancient Key only opens the follow-up route.

Keeping that boundary avoids mixing two quest objectives: this page solves Florin’s trigger, hideout and decision; the Legendary Equipment guide covers the optional key and equipment inside the next area.

Sources: the trigger dialogue and three outcomes were cross-checked against Polygon’s quest walkthrough and PowerPyx’s objective walkthrough; the Acolyte–Treasury route follows Guidedragon and games.gg. The reward of 250 XP and 1 Skill Point is the majority figure across sources, but not a unanimous one, and at least one source treats the quest as missable if the coronation deadline passes — so finish it early rather than relying on that reading.
